On each project page there are sections Related Projects by Tags and People who use Foo also use (capitalization rule mismatch there, BTW). These are handy.

Competitor Projects. For instance, what are all the DVR projects that have similar functionality as MythTV? Distributed source control systems that are similar to Mercurial? Enterprise software management systems that are similar to Chef?
For example: there are hundreds of tags assigned to the MythTV project; clicking through each one to find similar projects is thus not doable. Choosing one likely tag PVR (which is very difficult to find in the non-alphabetized list, plus you have to know the problem domain to know the tag) shows a mix of symbiotic projects (mythbuntu) and one competitor (XBMC). After a time I realize there's a MythTV tag and'ed on, and remove it, and then also see Freevo. This is far from an optimal way to find project competitors.
I hope you will consider adding this feature. As an end user, I am highly interested in knowing all competing software solutions/projects for a given domain. It helps me keep abreast of up-and-comers, and to know when certain platforms are fading into oblivion.
