Aptman is a simple wrapper for Debian's Advanced Packaging Tool featuring visually attractive output and an interactive mode, inspired by the Pacman package manager and Yaourt front-end from the Arch Linux distribution.
Instructions:Download and extract the aptman script chmod +x aptman sudo visudo and add this line to your sudoers file (replacing USER with your own username)
USER ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/apt-get,/usr/bin/env
Alternatively, you may skip the last step if you plan on running aptman with root privileges.
Features:Easy package searching with interactive search mode (inspired by yaourt) Simple installing and removing programs, as well as system upgrade Clean and colorful output (Somewhat) configurable with config file ~/.aptman/prefs.py If you are a user who needs advanced apt features and options, this may not be the right tool for you. However, if you often find yourself using the same apt-get install/remove commands and searching for packages, then you should try aptman! Aptman is a very new project, so feedback is greatly appreciated!
How to use aptman
Screenshots:Default searching with interactive downloading mode: aptman pidgin
Simple download interface (with progress bar support)
Give it a try and see how you like it! :)
Notes:I've only tested this on the Linux Mint distribution (based on Ubuntu), but I'm guessing it should work on Ubuntu. I am not too familiar with Debian or its other derivatives, but please let me know if it works (or not)!
This is my first real project, and any feedback is greatly appreciated.
