Et voila... ...by the same way than TIFF and PNG, digiKam is now able to write JPEG2000 metadata on the fly. I have just patched Exiv2 library for that. See below a video demo of digiKam from KDE4 in action working with Metadata Editor over a JPEG2000 file and writting digiKam info to another PNG file.read more

It's holliday time for me currently. Since two week, i still in south of France near Mediterranean sea. Summer is nice to play on the beach with my familly. But for my hot brain, it's difficult to still without a little programming task to do for ... [More] open-source world... Here i don't have a speed internet connection. My laptop (a Toshiba Satellite) has a winmodem which run only under Windows Vista. It's not easy to sync my local copy of current subversion implementation of digiKam and co. Here is a joke of a review titled 'Ubuntu Photo Manager Experiment'. It even fails at wanting to compare FOSS software against Aperture as it compares mainly non-FOSS programs. It ignores digiKam and ufraw, krita. But read the reader comments below the article and on Slashdot: digiKam is by far the recommended solution!

For the upcoming 0.10 version we have taken the step to completely rewrite the searching functionality, both the backend and the user interface. Our new database layout allows us to offer much more search options, as we now store in the database what ... [More] we consider useful to the photographer, and storing in the database is prerequisite for searching. The old search interface from the current stable KDE3 line 0.9 allowed to create quite complex logically combined queries, but had only a limited amount of information about a picture that it could actually search. Like i have previously said in this post, for the next major release of Exiv2, the Tiff metadata writting mode will be available. Duing a lack of Exif metadata support in libtiff, we cannot use this library to backup all metadata from a converted ... [More] RAW file.
