Overviewdjango-geo-kit is built on top to GeoDjango, the GIS branch of the Django Framework. GeoDjango wraps three powerful libraries into one intuitive package: PostGIS, GEOS, and Proj.4. DGT complements this functionality with tools that work with you at the application level. With DGT, you can easily relate GIS information to your models and the API is designed to return data in formats that work well with both maps and user interface controls.
GoalsThe goal of django-geo-tools (DGT) is to provide a well-rounded and easy to use suite of tools for adding basic geospatial features to your Django apps. The project will include utilities for adding location attributes to your models as well as client side tools for mapping the data.
DGT will help you spruce up your web applications with features like:
GeoTagging Find within city, state, zip code Proximity searches based on a street address or (latitude, longitude) point Interactive maps - let users label locations on a map
NOTE this project is in very early stages of development For the early phases of development, the client side mapping capabilities will be based on the Google Maps API.
