In a number of articles last fall on my personal blog I discussed NoSQL Databases in general and showed how RavenDB – a .NET NoSQL Database - could be used as the Data Store for an ASP.NET MVC Application. In this post, I will demonstrate how ... [More] RavenDB can be used as the Data Store for a DotNetNuke Module. (I will assume that readers are familiar with NoSQL Databases and RavenDB in particular, but if you are not familiar then please read those earlier articles) [Less]

Long ago when we started shipping jQuery resources with DotNetNuke we began offering a Host Setting which allowed you to use a HOSTED version of the jQuery resources. There are a number of benefits for using the hosted jQuery resources, of which I ... [More] will mention some below, but there are also some potential disadvantages or risks to this as well. First a quick summary of what the setting allows you to do. With DNN (specifically with DNN 6.*+) we ship both jQuery resources and the jquery.ui resources. These are javascript files that exist on the web server that hosts your DotNetNuke website. Using the HOSTED setting allows you to basically have those files distributed from a CDN (content delivery network). [Less]

Over the past two weeks I’ve been working on a idea to demonstrate how to use Knockout.js with DNN module development. I presented the topic and demo’d a module at both the St. Louis Day of .NET and the Bay Area DotNetNuke User’s Group in the past ... [More] week. The module is called SlidePresentation, and you can see it in action via the recording from the BayDug meeting earlier this week (available on youtube). The module allows you to create Slides, using... [Less]

Over the last 20 years I have been to a lot of developer and user conferences. Most of them follow the same format, and generally the standard format works very well. However, over the last 7 or 8 years, I have seen a few twists on the session format ... [More] which provides some additional excitement to the conference. Recently, I attended and spoke at the Charlotte Day of DotNetNuke where the organizers had put together an Ignite session. This format allows for a greater number of speakers and a little wider scope of topics. Because of the somewhat chaotic nature of the Ignite session, it generally has a higher level of energy. Even if the attendees don’t care for one speaker, just wait a couple of minutes and a new speaker will be on stage. [Less]

As of today, we are 2 months away from the first day of conference sessions for DNNWorld 2012 in Orlando, Florida (less than two months to the pre-conference training on the 10th). Leading up to the conference we are holding a weekly Google+ Hangout over on the DotNetNuke G+ Page interviewing some of the speakers who will be attending DNNWorld.

When I announced this years DotNetNuke SUPER Fan contest, I promised that I would let you know what the prizes would look like. If you don’t remember, we are taking the Awesome Cycles branding from our default installation template a step further ... [More] and providing an AWESOME cycle and cycling gear to the top 3 places in the DotNetNuke SUPER Fan contest. Winning is simple. Do something amazing to prove that you are the world’s most passionate fan of DotNetNuke, and if the community agrees through voting, you win! [Less]

Many of the Patterns and Practices that will be discussed in this series rely on the so-called “SOLID” Design principles, so in this article in our series I will take a detour to introduce this very important set of principles.

After six weeks of voting we are down to just a handful of speakers remaining in the running for the final two speaker slots at DotNetNuke World. While I think all of the sessions would be great, we just didn’t have room to fit them all in. Voting is ... [More] definitely heating up, but now is not the time to stop. Your votes will determine who’s session makes it to DNN World and who’s session is burned up in the summer sun. [Less]
