Recently it has come to my attention that Loch Ness has several rather serious bugs that slipped right past QA. Most of these issues were fixed by Monday, but I've decided to release a patch which will fix all known issues in Loch Ness. If anyone ... [More] experiences any problems with it please let me know, but DO NOT use it on an Enano installation that has been modded code-wise. The patch can be downloaded from: http://enanocms.org/bin/distrib/1.0.1/enano-1.0.1-fixes.patch (GPG signature) Hint for Linux users: patch -p 1 < enano-1.0.1-fixes.patch [Less]

Update 3: Finished the second transfer, and we're starting to test things out. dandaman32 21:58, 11 September 2007 (UTC) Update 2: Transfer 1 out of 2 is complete, the site is up but our mirror isn't. This will be fixed as fast as my DSL modem can ... [More] upload its little heart out. dandaman32 21:34, 11 September 2007 (UTC) Update: The tables will be momentarily locked for the upgrade. dandaman32 17:16, 11 September 2007 (EDT) Thanks to the amazing folks over at Network Redux, we are pleased to announce that Enano has received free Silver VPS hosting. We'll be moved to the new server before the week is out. We plan to move the main site and forum, and Neal Gompa has also proposed a read-only, auto-synchronizing version of the Mercurial repository. For the nerdy ones out there, the VPS runs Fedora Core 5 (Bordeaux) and will have home-baked Apache and PHP setups, carefully optimized for speed and security. [Less]

Update: Our host was able to get the account unlocked, and we've mirrored the database back onto Bigmomma. Everything should be back up as it was now, please notify us if you find any problems. They say the third time's the charm. For the third time ... [More] this week, I received news that this site was not functioning at all, this time with a "connection refused" error. I tried to log in to cPanel, and much to my disgust, I found that Manoj's reseller account, and mine along with it, had been suspended. Why? Supposedly failure to pay up. But we prepaid by 1 year for the package in March or so. Whatever is behind this, this is certainly the last straw with GlobeDomain's hosting. We've applied to another reputable, prominent hosting company for free hosting, which they have told us is provided to FOSS projects like Enano. Still waiting for word back on that one. We've restored the site from a backup, but it was dated August 27 so one news item (I think the one about Loch Ness) was lost to thin air. GlobeDomain apparently told Manoj that his account will be back up in a day, and when that happens we'll try to get an SQL dump. Thanks everyone for understanding, we're working as hard as we can under less-than-ideal conditions here as you can see. Hopefully soon things will be better. [Less]

Some of you will have noticed that our failsafe site has kicked in twice this past week. The cause of the first outage was a PHP upgrade by our webhost, and the second one was the result of a quota being exceeded on /tmp, causing MySQL queries to ... [More] fail with "Error 28". We have been assured that all problems with the server have been fixed, but the Enano project is considering moving to another hosting service in the near future. [Less]

Enano version 1.0.1, codenamed Loch Ness, is nearing a release. We are in need of assistance with testing and quality assurance, and will gladly accept all volunteers. This release will contain several fixes, plus support for page tagging and a page ... [More] grouping feature that was dropped from Banshee due to a lack of time. Help is needed in particular with testing Enano on Windows with MySQL 5.0.45, which is known to have problems with Enano. We hope to be releasing on September 7. The Mercurial repositories are always open and available. [Less]

Update: Back up, hopefully. Still a few more tests to run and a few more Apache modules to compile. dandaman32 19:09, 8 August 2007 (EDT) Due to a slightly unexpected (it had been coming for some time) CentOS patheticness episode, the decision has ... [More] been made to put Fedora Core 4 back on Bigmomma. We'll be back up by 3PM EDT on August 8, but until then the demo site, Mercurial repository, and Nighthawk (the development site which is mod_proxy'ed through Bigmomma) are going to be down. Hang tight, and I'm gonna be doing an rm -f CentOS-5.0-i386-bin-DVD.iso real soon. A friendly word of advice for server admins: don't use CentOS 5 or RHEL 5 on ancient servers, especially if you plan to run Enano. [Less]

After yet again experiencing problems with my ISP, Manoj Maddali has offered to host enanocms.org. So we've now been moved to his server. Thanks Manoj!

Due to Zend's recent decision to end support for PHP 4.x at the end of this year, the Enano project has made the decision to drop support for PHP 4.x in versions 1.1.x and newer. The 1.0.x stable branch will be the last branch to support servers ... [More] running PHP 4.x. We're doing this because Enano relies mainly on OOP for most of its operations, and PHP 4 does not provide the security we need. Any fool can find about $session->private_key, or any other of Enano's secrets, and have a properly-written page spit out that private key and the entire contents of the password list. To that end, we may be taking the SHA1 route, depending on what kind of encryption technologies can be developed, but in the mean time, the plan is to make sensitive variables like $session->private_key protected and only accessible to internal Enano functions. The Enano 1.0.x branch will be maintained indefinitely at this point. We plan to provide at least 2 years of support and updates, possibly more. This all depends on how many bug and security reports we receive. The Enano Project's policy with security patches is, as soon as a security flaw notice is received and reviewed and the bug is patched, we will send out a new release. [Less]
