Project Summary

EthicalThis isn't ethical as in, don't download DRM encumbered music, don't illegally download copyrighted software, don't kill baby seals, and only use free (as in speech) codecs. Other people fight those battles. This is ethical as in, lets treat the sysadmin ethically, lets treat the users ethically.

SysadminThe sysadmin is an adult, not a mushroom. They don't need hand holding, they don't need things dumbed down, and they don't need, or want, the details hidden from them. There is nothing wrong with compiling your own packages or kernels, as long as they are kept in the right place. An ethical distro allows the sysadmin to do so, and doesn't complain or create extra hoops.

UserOperating systems aren't just for sysadmins, in fact, users are often the primary consumer of our cpu cycles! If a user has the right to write and execute their own code in their own directory, and the sysadmin hasn't installed a piece of software, the user should be able to install it in their own directory, without undue hassle.

And that's just the beginning. This is a software manifestation of a manifesto in process.
