Project Summary

FreeTMSOverviewFreeTMS is an open source, standards compliant petroleum terminal management system (TMS) and automation system (TAS). The main benefits over a commercial TMS/TAS package are:

Standards Compliance -- We will be able to import and export data as PIDEX, SAP IDocs, Petroex, ExSTARS, and TABS. Source Code Availability -- Some of the benefits of having the source code include: The ability to perform in-house maintainence (changes). The ability to see 'under the hood'. Flexible Licensing -- Flexible GNU Licence. The customer can change . You can 'Under the hood' visibility -- Any code quality issues or defects are visible unlike non-free, closed source systems. Unlike with proprietary software, you will be able to audit FreeTMS for security and quality. Goals for First ReleaseModel the petroleum terminal management business in a proper RDBMS (like PostgreSQL). Design interfaces for importing data into our datamodel with concentration on PIDEX, PetroEx, and SAP IDOCs. Develop reports (as views). Design interfaces for hardware meters and load controllers (like Accuload and Multiload). Implement a sriptable loading process using a language like TCL, lisp, or Python. Integrate 'pretty' reporting system like Crystal Reports or Jasper Reports. Incorporate graphical user interface (using GTK+). All of this should run under Unix (FreeBSD, Solaris, & Linux) and use the GNU toolchain. Support for the Sun Studio compiler should be included.
