Mission: This group will be responsible for PONS representation, curation, and deployment infrastructure. They will investigate potential options (including NIF, Wikipedia, and resources within the INCF network) and pursue the appropriate resources to implement needed infrastructure. They will work closely with the domain expert task forces to define ways of curating knowledge that is both accessible to biologists, and can be translated to formal representations. In addition, they shall be responsible for working closely with technical groups that may wish to programatically access the resources developed in PONS, for example, atlasing and electrophysiology groups. Initial focus will be representing neurons and anatomy of the brain, working with the corresponding PONS task forces.
Technology: The ontology logical formalism will be based on the evolving OBO foundry approach and use OWL as a basis, possibly adopting other technologies used within foundry projects. For collaboration and dissemination to biologists we will start with a wiki approach, working to assess its efficacy and improving it as needed.
