After two years without a Joomla!Day in Germany this year the event comes back with an ambitious lineup. Today the Joom!Fish team is honored to announce that we are officially sponsoring the whole event and will be present on all three days. The ... [More] event starts with the Virtuemart Day 2009 on Thursday 24th of September. This day promises to be the e-commerce information buster for everybody involved in the shopping sites based on Joomla. And I know that the virtuemart team is working on some very, very cool presentations. The Joom!Fish core developers Geraint Edwards and Alex Kempkens will be there as well and answer questions on how to integrate virtuemart with Joom!Fish to make your whole shop multilingual or even setup country specific shops with a lot of different tweeks, concepts and information. On the Joomla! Business Day (25th of September) the Joom!Fish project will present the most recent version of the project and give a talk about the integration of multilingual websites. Geraint and Alex will be there to answer your questions and give you specific insides of issues related the project. During the whole day you can meet a lineup of Joomla and 3rd Party developers that will be outstanding. People claimed other Joomla!Days to be special because of their speakers - I would argue this Joomla!Day becomes special and outstanding because of the combination of speakers, developers and you! For the Joomla! Community Day (26th of September) the Joom!Fish team is very honored that all our moderators (Carolien caro86g> and Harri Tassu>) as well as the rest of the Joom!Fish Core team will join in. On this day you can join in for a great discussion about multilingual websites and the solutions in general. We will have an open round to discuss solutions, concepts and related ideas for the future. The list of people attending the event grows every day. And we highly suggest you make your final decision before the summer holidays - otherwise you never know if there is still a possible ticket available. Check out the Joomla!Day website and tell us if you come. Comments with - yes I'll be there are very welcome. Looking forward meeting you in Bad Nauheim 24th to 26th of September 2009 The Joom!Fish team [Less]

You can now see Joomfish in action at the new Joomfish Demo site. This demo is a 5 language site using the Joomla sample data.  We'd like to add more languages to the demo so if you know of another language where the Joomla sample data has been ... [More] translated then please let us know in the forum. In the next few days we will be adding the ability to try out the Joomfish translation process - so watch this space. Geraint [Less]

[More] be that we are going post some other pretty interesting infos there - why only blog? Beside twitter you can also find information about the Joom!Fish project on various other platforms and web portals. If you are missing us on one of them, let us know. If it makes sense for us we will try to provide you more information about the project in your preferred environment as well. [Less]

It didn't happened with a big bang, nor did I heard a lot of people screaming about it recently. The Joomla 1.0.x series served a lot of people for a huge number of websites. Some of these websites are already migrated to Joomla 1.5.x series but I ... [More] assume many of them are not yet. So what are we going to do with them? With the definition of the end of life the Joomla development team will no longer support this code. This means that security issues or other fixes are not being released anymore. In general this doesn't affect an existing site as long as there is no new issue - but who knows? Actually this means you need to upgrade now! There is no excuse that the migration costs time and effort, or that the extension you like to use doesn't exist yet. All major extensions are meanwhile converted to Joomla 1.5 and they run either in legacy or even in native mode within the new framework. The migration path is possible even for quite complex and big sites. Yes it takes time and effort, but this is less than any hack or security related issue. For the Joom!Fish project the Joomla 1.0.x EOL means we are no longer supporting our Joom!Fish 1.x versions. We will keep these files available on joomlacode but we highly recommend everybody using the Joom!Fish 2.x series. Within our forum we have moved the 1.x related forums and will close them for read only access pretty soon. Joom!Fish 1.8 was a great extension and it also serves a lot of people on a lot of websites. The latest 1.8 package was downloaded nearly 124.185 times which is an impressive number. We like to take this opportunity to thank all our contributors, customers, users and friends for their commitment to the project and the ongoing support. The whole Joom!Fish team is focusing at the moment on the release of the up-coming version 2.1 which will may be sometimes reach these high numbers of downloads of one single file.   [Less]

It's about a year ago that we started our Joom!Fish Club. The new extensions, support and other services are helping more and more Joom!Fish club members. Of course we will celebrate this within our community. At the moment we discuss various ideas ... [More] and options how to celebrate. One thing is for sure it will be like a little firework - or may be a big firework? One thing is pretty sure, we will say thank you to all our club members of the first year. What does it mean? Everybody who signed up for a club membership until the 30th of June 2009 will take part in a set of "lucky draws". It doesn't matter if you are signed up for one month or a year, if you won your membership during one of our Joomla!Days or if you signed up on the 30th of June. Everybody who is in our database on the 30th of June 23.59 MET - is able to win. What? Stay connected and you will find out. Also make sure you are following us on twitter, who knows may be there will be some party too . [Less]

It is always very interesting if people asked you about information because they prepare a presentation of Joom!Fish. The last person asking was Jean-Marie Simonet (aka infograf768) who prepared a workshop during the Joomla!Day France 2009. Today I ... [More] got his slides and it looks for me that his workshop titled "Internationalisation de Joomla et Joomfish" ("Internationalization with Joomla and Joom!Fish) was great fun. They covered basically all of the important aspects from understanding the various problems related to languages, the language system within Joomla and the usage of Joom!Fish. You can download his presentation (Frensh) as well as all other presentations from the event on the site. I'm pretty sure many others have already presented Joom!Fish in their language. May be you can let us know and we can create a documentation section of third party presentation, documentations and other information in the various languages. Many thanks again to Jean-Marie and the whole team in Paris. This was already the 3rd Joomla!Day in the capital of France and I'm sure it's not the last one. [Less]

The last few days I looked often to the frontpage of joomlacode.org our platform to provide the Joom!Fish downloads. The reason was that the mark of 700.000 downloads was pretty close. Today I checked again and joomlacode stats show already 702.219 ... [More] downlaods - This is pretty amazing! Thanks to all users. Ok there is still a gap to the number 1 extension JEvents with their 1.3 million downloads - but we gonna work on this as well. Just the full package of latest version 2.0.3 was already downloaded 39.659 times. This indicates that a growing number of multilingual websites are build using the new versions Joomla and Joom!Fish.  To improve the user experience of Joom!Fish we will focus on our own website first. Within the next weeks we are going to update a lot of general content, documentation, showcase and other information. This all goes along with the preparations for the next version Joom!Fish 2.1 that should be released soon. The features for this version are already defined by our users using the feedback system. The changes in the translation UI and some other features to improve the usability are the primary fields of our work. Together with the teams from joomlaworks and yootheme we are working on a solution to support the CCK based extensions and allow a smooth integration for their translations. Again thanks to all users, contributors, developers and the moderation team in the forum for the great work and the positive feedback we get. Keep on sending us more feedback and ideas and wishes to improve Joom!Fish. And hopefully see all of you during the Joomla!Day 2009 in Germany (www.joomladay.de) on which we will present a couple of new developments. [Less]

There is a new Gold member plugin that enables site administrators to direct first time visitors from specific countries to specific languages/locales in Joomfish enabled Joomla websites. You will require a subscription to ... [More] http://www.maxmind.com/app/web_services#country to operate. If this plugin is enabled then first time Joomfish will use the GeoIP plugin instead of the browser language determination to set the visitor's page language.  Note that if the visitor has chosen a language using the Joomfish module, or the language is specified by the URL or the Joomfish language cookie has been set then these are used instead of the GeoIP lookup - this means that the lookup is only used for "first time visitors". If there is demand we could modify this plugin to force visitors from specific countries to see the site in a specific language.  This could be used, for exmple, on one language investment sites to ensure that visitors see the version of the content appropriate to their regulatory framework.  If you'd like this feature to be added - let me know through the club forum, Geraint [Less]
