Megatron (mega=big tron=instrument) will be a quantum many-body simulation framework for petascale computers. The basic design principles are (1) multilevel parallelism and (2) autotuned algorithms are necessary for specialized hardware. Rather than a monolithic package, the final code will be built from a number of extensible libraries for each aspect of the code. In particular, the linear algebraic data structures and corresponding algorithms will come from a library which provides an abstraction layer to multiple implementations built on top of GA, MPI, DCMF and other parallel frameworks.
