ODNS is a library to query DNS servers. The API provides a high level resolver, as well with lower level access to DNS messages (hence any kind of query is possible, even "unsupported" ones).
It also provides several very high level helper functions, hiding complicated DNS logics (which may imply for instance sending new queries, depending on initial results, or ordering results according to weight and priority), for instance to get all addresses (IPv4 and IPv6) of a domain, or to get the ordered list of IPs and ports to try and connect to for a given service (SRV records support).
Finally a DNS lookup utility (similar to "host" or "dig"), named "ring", is furnished along. It is both a proof of concept of using the library and a real complete and useful tool on its own.
