Project Summary

OpenVPN provides authentication via certificates, and via PAM, but if you would like to authenticate against a file that contains names and passwords, the functionality was not there.

My project provides a howto description and files needed to handle authentication against a file containing usernames and passwords. No longer do you need to deal with certificates that are (IMHO) difficult to manage, or have users configured on your system that have no shell. This keeps authentication completely separate and easy to manage.

For installation directions, please see the README.

News2007-11-19: Intial release 0.01 is posted in the downloads section. This includes basic functionality for authentication via a flat file. Please read instructions under the wiki for installation and usage.

TodoWrite out rudimentary information about setting up a client (CLIENT-README) Create a system to manage users in the file (code up a way to modify passwords) Pie in the sky: Hack in a way to MySQL back-end it and make a web front end Re-write the entire system using Python and SQlite. Write scripts to manage the users inside the db. ContactPlease feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the script, bug reports, or feature requests, and I'll be happy to discuss them with you.

Enjoy! -Jeff
