Project Summary

Ouroboros is a tool to help storytellers manage a database of characters, props, locations, effects, plots, notes, ideas, etc. It handles character personality archetypes & advancement, plot events, printing & reporting, charts, and some limited ability to manage a playwright's player information. It is intended to be intuitive and flexible enough to be used by authors, playwrights, screen-writers, directors, and roleplaying game managers.

Ouroboros exposes a cross-platform open api for creating, managing and exchanging character and plot data. Whether you run Dungeons & Dragons, GURPs or World of Darkness, there's no reason why you can't use the same story, scenario and character descriptions. When you get a good idea you should be able to record it. Hero Lab is a similar, commercial product which focuses solely on game mechanics. Write-it-Now is another product which focuses primarily on the narrative. Ouroboros should combine features of both apps.

Key Design GoalsIntended to be a game administration tool. Key features are to include:

Cross platform compatibility: currently targeting Windows XP and Mac OS X System agnosticism (can be used for various gaming systems with appropriate plug ins) Support for game database queries and statistic gathering Due to our cross platform requirements Java is our primary reference implementation language of choice. Our web-based front-end is implemented in PHP.

Key Features for AlphaInitially we are supporting White-Wolf's World of Darkness 2.0 system. The game database can be stored as XML files or can be backed by a relational database.

Key Features for BetaWill be set after alpha version released

Key Features for ReleaseWill be set after alpha release
