RDBC is intended to be to Ruby what JDBC is to Java - a universal, cross-DBMS API for data access. RDBC is an adaptation in the sense that it does not follow the JDBC specification exactly. Instead, Ruby conventions (e.g., method naming conventions) will be followed whenever possible and Ruby features (e.g., closures) will be used to the greatest degree possible.
The initial 0.1 version of RDBC will support Oracle. Successive versions will provide support for Postgres, MySQL, and other DBMS's.
