Traffic jams are a national problem. Time wasted in traffic jams affects drivers and is a huge loss to the economy, in the billions of Sheqels. Traffic jams always result in the waste of costly gasoline, and increases air pollution and risk of accidents.
Traffic jams are a thing familiar to us all – from little to big, there is almost no man woman or child in the world that has not come to know, and hate, traffic jams.
Traffic jams are one of the worst problems that affect the transit system today – not only that, it affects people emotionally throughout the day. This is why we are interested in analyzing and possibly, hopefully, being able to predict at least part of them. We propose a gadget that will supply the user with the driving speed in ayalon highway, sorted according to date,time and road segments.
Obviously we will have a huge database of the traffic situation in the recent time period - the last few months, but since some people are may also be interested in driving speed a day or two days or a week ago, we will add lists for time periods such as the day before, two days before, and up to a week before.
The goal of this gadget is to create a user friendly platform to inform the client easily and quickly of the current ,past and even future situation in ayalon highway. Also, saving the search parameters will save time from configuring the search each time. This way, as it happens most of the time, the user gets to have a real assertion of the traffic conditions, spending only a few seconds of his time.
Extra features could be easily be added to the gadget such as:
Downloading full information of a certain time period. Receiving feedback from users. Storing a track (for people who drive the road on a daily basis). Also, saving search parameters will prevent reconfiguring the search everytime
The gadget works by fetching and manipulating remote content situated on ayalon Highway's website.
We will scan the site every small period of time to update our database. In each scan we will maintain the average speed measured.
After each scan we will update the database situated on the server.
Additionally we will store snapshots of interesting time periods (like peak hours of all the days of the last week, or the morning and evening of the current day).
