blackbirdui

Compare

  Analyzed 12 months ago

Our codebase has been moved to GithubSource code: http://github.com/xdev/blackbird Documentation: http://github.com/xdev/blackbird/wikis Blackbird is a fully customizable data management system built with the understanding that no two websites are the same, nor are their management needs. Instead of ... [More] dictating a pre-defined schema for content storage, retrieval and manipulation (as most CMSs on the market do), Blackbird separates content, style and structure to adapt to any number of formats, front-facing interface(s), and any information/data architecture - be it an XHTML-based website, Flash site, XML/RSS, mobile content, custom API, or any needed technology. ApproachBlackbird was developed out of the need for a flexible toolbox with room for more tools when necessary. At it's core, Blackbird includes the tools to handle most common tasks (handling ascii and binary assets, users and permissions, content relationships and data-mapping), and when a special tool is required for a particular custom function, it can be easily added (image manipulation, nonlinear folksonomies, etc.). The idea is that no single tool is meant to perform every task: sometimes you just need a screwdriver or hammer, other times you need a paint brush and full pigment oils. FeaturesAttribute based categorization of content Flexible database schema to work with any information architecture Support for a combination of taxonomy and folksonomy systems Customizable standards-based XHTML/CSS user interface Ajax-enabled editing to enhance user experience and optimize workflow Object-oriented plug-in architecture for simple custom functionality Data mapping for cross-content relationships Advanced user permission system Comprehensive history log ExtensibilityWhile the core system's solid foundation is built to handle the common tasks of content storage and retrieval, Blackbird's object-oriented plugin architecture allows the core to seamlessly expand to handle any number of specific requirements. Custom extensions built in the past include customizable reports, image manipulation, metadata filtering systems, custom user content management privileges, email campaign management, site navigation systems, media galleries, and many more. LicensingBlackbird is open-source software freely available under the GNU General Public License v2. By default, any custom (client-specific) plugins are applied with the same license; however, arrangements can be made to provide full copyright protection for specific custom plugins to the client if necessary (additional fees may apply). Our hope is that innovation would be a benefit to all, but respect that some investments are meant to benefit only the few. System RequirementsPHP 5+ MySQL 4+ Apache 2 Other configurations are possible, if necessary, but might require some modifications to the core code. [Less]
