In addition,Collapsar is also designed to meet the requirement of Reliability,Robust and Scalability. Collapsar aims to take advantage of the existing open source database solution,e.g. Mysql, Postgresql, CSql and setup one light weight embedded but powerful in-memory engine. It is very challenging but exciting to develop one new database to embrace the 64-bit & cloud computing.We expect we can attract the top-guns from the Intenet to get involved in this project. The project can be divided into two phases: Phase I: Develop/implement on Linux 32/64bit platform. Phase II: Try to port the code base to more platforms: ( Windows,Solaris, AIX and such). Major Features Table I: The abbreviation for requirement level Mandatory M Highly Desired HD Optional O Table II: The Detailed Feature List Feature ID Feature Brief Description Requirement CLP-1 Client/Server Architecture. Client can connect to server and interact with server.In other words, we can interpret this requirement as one server sends command to server,server responses with result.The protocol between server and client must be defined and implemented.Regarding the protocol,please refer to CLP-5 M CLP-2 Embedded Architecture. On the contrast to the requirement CLP-1,it is required that the engine should be designed to enable 3rd party developers to link the lib into their own program. The database engine coexists within the scope of user's process (in-process).By invoking the encapsulated API, 3rd party developers can easily control the database engine on their own.It can tremendously cut down the client/server communication overhead to meet the high-speed requirement of some particular tasks. User or 3rd party has the capability to extend the plug-in api and customize their own plug-in program,for instance, authentication extension,parser extension etc.It is required that the server exposes the plug-in interface and hook user's plug-in at runtime. The interface should cover both CLI and detailed logging information M CLP-9 Logging The system should provide one comprehensive logging mechanism which would cover system logging, redo/undo logging,transaction logging.The logging system is the foundation of the PingPong Checkpoint mechanism. The logging system must meet the requirement of efficiency,reliability,serviceability. M CLP-10 Upgrade/Downgrade The system design should take the upgrade/downgrade into consideration.It is required the system has the capability to conduct smooth release upgrade and guarantee the data integrity during the data migration M CLP-11 Tools Tools including the data dumping & monitoring tool(s) should be delivered upon project completion. M CLP-12 Testability Consideration The architecture design should take the Testability into consideration. The testability API should be available and test suites should be ready for testing. M CLP-13 SQL Standard Compliance System should fully follow SQL-92 standard.It is highly desired that system can implement some key items stated in SQL:2003 standard.
