FreeCAD

FreeCAD will be a general purpose 3D CAD modeller. The development will be completely Open Source. As modern 3D CAX modellers it will have a 2D component to extract design drawings from the 3D model, but 2D (like AutoCAD) is not the focus, neither are animation and organic shapes (Maya, 3D ... [More] StudioMAX, Cinema 4D). FreeCAD will aim directly to mechanical engineering, product design and related features (like CatiaV4 and V5, and SolidWorks). It will be a feature based parametric modeler. [Less]

OpenSCAD

OpenSCAD is a software for creating solid 3D CAD objects. Unlike most free software for creating 3D models (such as the famous application Blender) it does not focus on the artistic aspects of 3D modelling but instead on the CAD aspects. Thus it might be the application you are looking for when ... [More] you are planning to create 3D models of machine parts but pretty sure is not what you are looking for when you are more interested in creating computer-animated movies. [Less]

Your content already has great meta data? Wouldn't it be nice to give your users access to that information to help refine their search results? The Google Search Appliance and Google Mini support for parametric search makes using that metadata a breeze. Simply plug in this AJAX-based UI ... [More] component, and see search in a whole new light. Hint: This module dynamically creates facets based on meta tags within your indexed corpus. If you are interested in a solution that adds a faceted search menu that is static, you should take a look at a project called gsa-faceted-search: http://code.google.com/p/gsa-faceted-search/. Please email us at enterprise-labs@google.com after you download the software so we can keep you up-to-date on new versions and bug fixes as they are released. You can also join the Google Enterprise Labs Discussion Forum to ask questions, hear about new experiments that are coming, and suggest ideas for new experiments! [Less]

CityGen is a full featured city generator. Well, full feature except for all the features its missing. Hopefully you just want to draw a few lines and make some boxes. As long as thats all you want to do, its full featured! Chris Thom Remus

Google Sketchup contains an example Ruby class, Parametric, that allows a developer to specify a number of parameters to a program and lets the user enter these at runtime. However, the parameters can only be entered as text, and it requires a certain amount of effort to change the parameters and ... [More] try out different combinations. LiveParametric inherits from Parametric and makes it much easier to use parametric sketchup plugins while making almost no extra demands on the plugin writer. Rather than use Sketchup's built-in UI.inputbox, it creates a custom WebDialog which can contain Sliders, TextFields, RadioButtons, Dropdown menus, and whatever else we get around to adding. It may turn out that the dynamic WebDialog creation code is more valuable to Sketchup developers than the LiveParametric code, and that the two are modularized. I'll see if there's any desire for this. -- Evan Jones, 7 September 2007 [Less]
