URD is a program to download binaries from usenet (newsgroups) through a web interface.
While some other programs offer similar services (e.g. Ninan, Sabnzbd), URD doesn't need external NZB files to function. URD lets you subscribe to newsgroups, and will then automatically analyse those

Tin is a powerful text mode news reader. It features threaded news reading, regex driven killfiles/message selections, pgp encryption, ispell support, and can read from both a local spool or from a remote NNTP server.
sonews is a RCF 3977 compliant NNTP Usenet Server. It is written in Java and uses CouchDB or a relation database management system (RDBMS) as backend (currently PostgreSQL and MySQL). sonews is highly multithreaded and uses Java NIO asynchronous sockets to handle thousands of concurrent connections.
