MDXParameter

Compare

  No analysis available

The MDX Parameter sample is a tool that can capture SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) MDX query trace with parameter values, and substitute the MDX query parameter names with values. After the MDX parameters are substituted with parameter values, it is easier to debug and test the MDX query in SQL Server 2005 Management Studio.

Sql Server Analysis Services Utils

Compare

  No analysis available

SQL Server Analysis Services Utilities. The initial code just contains a form to get your dimensions and paritions and process them (although it is not async - something that would be cool to add though!). Figured it would be good to start a project to get any and all SSAS AMO Code together.

Analysis Services Parent-Child Dimension

Compare

  No analysis available

Parent/Child dimensions, wherein each member references the ID of its parent member rather than being specified on a specific level of a hierarchy, are often a cause for poor performance in Analysis Services databases. One way of dealing with this is to convert a poorly performing P/C dimension ... [More] table to a natural one. Instead of having a member ID key column and a corresponding parent ID column, which must be referenced recursively until the root of the hierarchy tree is reached, a converted table contains one column for each level of the hierarchy in addition to the member ID, and each ancestor ID of a member is specified in the level column associated with it in the table. This prevents the requirement of traversal of the hierarchy tree in order to identify each member's location in the hierarchy. Here is a simple example: * Root -> o Member 1 -> + Member 2 -> # Member 3 # Member 4 Here is the associated P/C dimension table for this hierarchy: MemberID ParentID MemberData 1 0 xxxxxx 2 1 yyyyy 3 2 zzzzzz 4 2 xyxyxy And here is the "flattened" dimension table for the same hierarchy: MemberID Level0ID Level1ID Level2ID MemberData 1 1 null null xxxxxxx 2 1 2 null yyyyyy 3 1 2 3 zzzzzzz 4 1 2 4 xyxyxyxy The P/C table structure is very common in relational databases, but it does not translate to good performance in an Analysis Services dimension, especially if it is a large dimension with many members, or is used in conjunction with many other P/C dimensions in the AS database. So in some cases, "flattening" the P/C table can significantly improve performance. However, this is not a very simple process. The PC Dimension Flattener tool can simplify the conversion process from a P/C dimension to a flat dimension. It prompts for the source database, table, and Parent and Child ID columns, and the name of a new table to be generated. It then creates a new table [Less]
