To provide a framework for Data Analysis that is not instrument or technique/dependent.
To support multiple target platforms.
The framework must be easily extensible by Instruments Scientists/Users.

ICAT is a database with a well defined API that provides an interface to Large Facility experimental data and will provide a mechanism to link all aspects of the research chain from proposal through to publication
ICAT is developed as a collaboration between STFC eScience , STFC ISIS Facility , Diamond Light Source and the ILL.
The ICAT project hold the code for the database and the API layer of an Information catalog that hold metadata about the Synchrotron and Neutron data.
This portal project would be based on EXT GWT. It is currently only a demonstrator of a possible interface.
