claiming identity

Your new thing for claiming identity on open source projects is interesting.

Unfortunately I have been involved in a project where my biggest contributions were under a name that it not my current one. Specifically ASCEND project has johnpye and jpye.

Could you please remove the limitation on this feature so that I can have all of my contributions recognised?

If you can't claim 2 identities on 1 project, you should use the Alias feature of the project to combine those 2 accounts into 1. I've done that for your accounts, but it will have effect after the next update only. See http://www.ohloh.net/projects/3410/aliases

Bananeweizen is correct. Sorry you had trouble JP.

The reasons for the distinction between aliases and claims are obscure and technical, but I suppose that's not a good excuse for the website to also be obscure and technical.

Perhaps we should consider making aliasing automatic: if you claim two contributions, it seems we should be able to automatically create an alias behind the scenes. It gets a little messy if you unclaim one or the other contribution. Hmm.

Thoughts?
