How much is "too much" enlistments (for Debian project)

Hi,

I recently took a look at Debian project page: https://www.ohloh.net/p/debian

There is currently 871 code locations. However, on http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb we can see about 10 000 git repositories used in Debian project.

I have a script who could add them all (with a pause every 5 sec.) automatically but I'm worried it may be too much for Ohloh infrastructure?

Also, last analysis was done a month ago. Is that the right frequency?

Thanks!

Gabriel,

I will look now but I suspect this was one of those projects that was too unstable at 871 enlistments and would never finish an update at that level of complexity.

Standby.

Thanks!

Ok, let me know because if the Debian project is unsuitable for Ohloh infrastructure, it would be better to remove the project page altogether IMO.

Thanks a lot!

Gabriel,

Surprisingly, there was only one failed update which I have rescheduled. It looks as if it will take a while to run it but I'll get back to you, probably tomorrow with the results.

Previously the project was hopelessly unstable with 634 enlistments and ~370 failed updates. If I'm correct there has been a wholesale migration to git over that time. That is a good thing. There is no way, though, that I can OK the idea of an additional 10,000 enlistments to be added. Should I be able to get the project up-to-date, a select few additional enlistments could be added carefully. You would need to choose and then watch the results before adding any additional enlistments.

Thanks!

Gabriel,

Is there nothing to be gained from having a project which showed the core of Debian? Are 10,871 enlistments needed to describe Debian as a whole? If so, interesting.

Thanks!

Well, the Debian project does host 37,000 binary packages...

I'll look if there's a way to select a limited number of repositories that could describe the project. If not, maybe this project is just too big/complex to be on Ohloh at all?

And is there a way to filter out the failed updates in a list of enlistments?

Thanks again for your answers!

Gabriel,

I don't know of any just now but stay tuned for future enhancements...

In the meantime I can help any time you need a list or a deeper explanation of the reason behind a particular failure...

Thanks!

Ok, thanks a lot!

I'll investigate regarding Debian project and let this thread knows of my proposed solution.

Gabriel,

I discovered one enlistment which is hanging up the update since July. They have moved or eliminated the repository and if it doesn't finish, the whole update won't finish. I'll e-mail you the troubled repository address and you make the call along with Luke.

Thanks!
