Torque 3D has a long history, and is originally the engine be hide the FPS game Tribes 2.
Since becoming Open Source the engine has really improved for new users and existing. Improving stability and the art pipe-line and adding support for Oculus Rift, Leap Motion and Razer Hydra. It shows it is looking to the future, a great start for game dev.
