We wanted to write to a brief announcement on the fast and furious progress being made on MythTV 0.24, and also to recognize the winner of our MythUI patch competition. After considering the submissions made during ... [More] the 0.22-0.23 development cycle, the winner of our MythUI patch competition is John Poet. John submitted a massive rework of MythUI button lists that allow the themer to size selected and unselected items differently, allowing the list to dynamically resize and adjust. This cool feature is already used in many new themes. John is the winner of a free year's membership to Schedules Direct. Work continues on MythTV 0.24 at a blistering pace. Over the past several months, features including the HD Audio branch, the MythUI OSD, a complete rework of Program Info handling, unencrypted Blu-ray playback, mass metadata updating in MythVideo, and the foundations of the MythMusic rewrite have been added to trunk. .24 promises to be a great step forward and we are still on track to bring it to you in the early fall. After six months of our new accelerated development schedule, MythTV 0.23 is now available. MythTV 0.23 brings a new event system, brand new python bindings, the beta MythNetvision internet video plugin, new audio code ... [More] and surround sound upmixer, several new themes (Arclight and Childish), newly resynced ffmpeg libraries, and fixes for analog scanning, among many others. Work towards MythTV 0.24 is in full swing, and has be progressing very well for the last several months. If all goes according to plan, MythTV 0.24 will bring a new MythUI OSD, a nearly rewritten audio subsystem capable of handling 24 and 32 bit audio as well as up to 8 channels of output, Blu-ray disc and disc structure playback, and various other performance, usability, and flexibility improvements. During the MythTV .23 development cycle, we ran a theming competition to invite users to rethink MythTV's UI in radical and creative new ways. The MythTV developers and public have spoken, and the following are our winners! ... [More] First Place: Childish, a 4:3 theme by Michael Lynch, designed with the author's children in mind. Second Place: LCARS, a 16:9 theme by Gary Butters based on a science fiction computer interface. Third Place: TransBlue, a minimalist 16:10 theme by Reto Wechner. Congratulations to all involved for their hard work and perseverence. Childish will be included in the MythThemes repository starting with the .23 release. The winners of the theme competition will receive tuner and high definition capture devices courtesy of Hauppauge, as well as listings subscriptions from Schedules Direct, and a T-Shirt. [Less]
