Ohloh in-cre-di-bly slooooooow

This site is on most occasions incredibly slow. Mostly it's juuuust endurable but sometimes it's hard not to just close the tab and give up. Page loads of 30 seconds or more are no exception and today page loads of a minute, up to two minutes seem to be normal.

I have saved a waterfall diagram so you can see for yourself. Most time is spent waiting for the first byte in the response.

I do not experience any slow internet for other sites (even across the ocean); Google (.com), Facebook, Twitter, you-name-it. Everything loads fine and dandy and snappy. Except for Ohloh.

Please note that it's not just today; it's been this way for months, maybe longer. Google's Pagespeed seems to agree (*Timeout while fetching the main resource*), as does GTmetrix and WebPageTest so it's not just me.

/forums performs a lot better though (and Google seems to agree). I'm assuming a different app-pool, virtual host, server or whatever. Amirite? :P

(And don't worry; I used an in-private session for the waterfalls so any session-cookies etc. are worthless)

Edit:
Found this.

Edit2:
And sure enough now I find this and your Twitter account that mentions a lot about performance issues too...

The site is barely useable at present with the OLTP functionality.

There are still severe issues with project code analysis (many large projects codebases haven't been analyzed and/or pulled for months).

Rob, Arcadiy;

Yes. You are correct. Without argument. The site performance is utterly unbearable. And this is with constant attention as we maintain tight monitoring of the servers to keep a reasonable balance between keeping the web site performant while running analyses so that there is fresh data on the site. We're working on yet another improvement that we hope will be sufficient to let us get caught up on outdated analyses while also letting people access the site. The real solution, upon which we will be working at the completion of the current UI upgrade, will be to re-architect the application and separate analyses from the web application.

At this point I can only apologize and ask for your patience as we continue to work hard and fast to make things better.

Hi,

Site is still super-slow for logged in users. :-(

Yesterday I wanted to claim my contributions to the librevenge project, and I keep getting a gateway timeout -- this operation used to be about 2 clicks and a few seconds the past.

Thanks,

Miklos

Sorry that the site is difficult, Miklos. We've released the new UI code about a month ago, are moving our crawlers to virtual machines to address the risk of the aging hardware, are are working on two plans to improve the back end processing. The first is dramatically reducing the amount of analysis we have to do on each project and the second is to separate the analytics processing from the web application. I'll write a new blog post in the next few days to let folks know.

Better days are coming, but it's really tough right now.
